With a strong focus on natural fibers the range is diverse, including not only a great selection of quality basics like Japanese cotton shirtings, silk chiffons, satins and georgettes, woolen suitings and coatings and linens, and also specialty pieces like New Zealand merino knits, leather hides, eco and organic fabrics and much more.

Merino

Merino wool is one of the finest and softest wools available and New Zealand produces some of the best quality Merino wool in the world. The Fabric Store has the best range of Merino knits available in New Zealand! Merino types stocked include both single, and double woven jersey in a wide range of weights and colours.

Cotton

Cotton is the most common of the natural fibre family with many popular every day clothing made from this practical fibre.

Linen

Price Range: $15 - $30 p/m

Despite its reputation for creasing, linen is one of our favourite fibres here at The Fabric Store. The texture and handle of linen is unique to this fibre.

Uses Perfect for summer weight dresses, trousers, jackets and skirts Linen is a very durable fabric, and is also suitable for home wares such as tea towels, table cloths, bedding and curtains

Silk

Properties 100% natural Light weight silks drape well Has a beautiful luster Keeps you comfortable in summer, and warm in winter Dyes well

Uses Often used in special occasion wear: ball gowns, wedding dresses, and high fashion garments

Wool

Properties 100% natural Very durable and flexible An excellent insulator, keeping you warm Flame Retardant Water Repellent to a certain degree

Uses Great for a variety of garments to be worn from autumn through to spring, such as coats, trousers, dresses, scarves, also great for suits Perfect for blankets and throws

Rayon

Price Range: $12 - $18 p/m

Properties Made from wood pulp, which has been manufactured to a fibre which has the drape of a silk, with the breathability, ease of care and comfort of cotton Anti-static properties Easy to dye

Uses A range of fashion garments, from special occasion through to casual wear. Including dresses, trousers, tunics, skirts and many other options

Lyocell / Tencel

Price Range: $12 - $18 p/m

Properties A variety of Viscose/Rayon, made from wood pulp Easy to dye Creases less than cotton Drapes beautifully

Uses Often stocked as a knit fabric, great for light weight T-shirts, singlets and dresses.

Acetate

Price Range: $7 - $18 p/m

Properties Breathable Non-static Quick drying Environmentally friendly Hypoallergenic

Uses The most common use is for linings, which come in a wide variety of colours

Bamboo

Properties The most environmentally friendly fabric Has antibacterial properties Keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter Moisture wicking

Uses Used a lot for summer weight baby garments and wraps. But also for garments for all ages, particularly those worn next to the skin
